Today we were very lucky to have an inflatable planetarium come to school in order to teach us more about space and learn about it through a different medium – 3D visualisation, projected on a 360° dome.
Mario, who was our space expert, took us on a fantastic learning journey exploring various aspects of space. Different topics included: life on the International Space Station; visiting Saturn (on a galactic rollercoaster ride); scientists’ quest for new life; how new life could exist on other planets; and, how the solar system has been viewed throughout time. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would recommend it to anyone – especially the rollercoaster ride on Saturn’s rings!

Kestrels have had a brilliant week: discussing, recognising, debating and evening acting anti-bullying. Each day we have covered a different topic related to anti-bullying but with a focus on everyone being different but equal.
Our activities included:
As you can see we have covered a lot and the children have shown a very mature understanding and have applied their learning really well. This week we investigated friction in science by using: a toy car, a ramp and different surfaces. We used a variety of surfaces in order to conclude which surfaces either produced a lot, or a little friction when the car traveled over them.
The class was split into small groups and each were able to test the effect of friction between the car and the surfaces by recording the distance the car traveled once departing the ramp. Even though our predictions varied, our results were all very similar! We've started a new science topic this week - forces!
We thought that we would begin the topic simply by investigating four of the main forces on our Earth: gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction. In small groups, we took it in turns to use different equipment to gain an idea of the effects of each force and generated different questions about them that we would like to investigate. We can't wait to investigate them in greater detail! |
