This week we visited the Ashmolean Museum (in Oxford) to learn more about ancient Greece. We looked around their cast gallery at different statues and explored other exhibits depicting life in ancient Greece. Whilst investigating these areas of the museum, we undertook different activities based on finding evidence to discover more about the past. Below are some pictures of our trip.

We got to grips with converting improper fractions to mixed numbers on Thursday! In order to do this, we focused on using concrete, pictorial and abstract resources. The use of multi link cubes certainly helped us to understand the concept!
This week in Kestrels we investigated the thermal conductivity of four different materials in order to conclude which would be best to insulate a warm drink.
The materials we tested included: metal, plastic, glass and card. We poured the same amount of water into each cup and recorded their temperatures every two minutes, for ten minutes. Each group worked really well together to ensure that the investigation was kept fair and accurate. We now have an improved idea of which materials we would prefer our flasks to be made out of! |
