This week we have shared a very important responsibility with Year 6 to help local artists create a heraldic lion (as you might see on some flag designs). Not only did both year groups work incredibly hard, but they displayed great team work.
Each class took it in turns to help create the lion, nonetheless our class was split into five small groups and given a specific job. We used withies to build the structure of the heraldic lion - each group built a different part. Once these were completed, we then placed all of the parts together on the main frame. After the frame was fixed together, we covered the lion in paper mache, so that we could give it some colour. The attention to detail and the care taken with this part of the process was fantastic. Overall, we were left with an impressive heraldic lion. The lion will be taken around the Medieval Festival on Friday 7th July, so please come and see it if you can!

This week has seen the continuation of our theme through all of our subjects, in which the children have worked incredibly hard. They have produced information texts on their own Fantastic Beasts; discussed and explored the life cycles of different animals; sketched our plants and other living things outside; debated the importance of spending money in life; and, we have also been looking at the lengths and angles of regular and irregular polygons. Well done to Kestrels for having a great week and we look forward to sharing more of our hard work with you. The life cycle of a flowering plant has been central to our learning so far this term. We have looked at this topic in not only science, but also our English, which has enabled us to gain a deeper understanding of its life cycle and how unique it is. In science we have spent time looking at the individual stages of the life cycle of a flowering plant and have debated which stage is the most important. Overall, most of the class voted that the fertilisation stage is the most important, because it is the unique point of the cycle when the flower begins to die, however it also develops new seeds. In English we have looked at the life cycle in different texts and have answered comprehension questions based on these texts, in order to see if we recall key pieces of information. We have then used these texts in our Talk For Writing - this has enabled us to embed the stages of the life cycle through the application of adding actions to key words. As a result of our improved knowledge surrounding the life cycle of a flowering plant, we each now have our own plants that we will look after for the rest of the summer term. We look forward to sharing more of our learning and understanding of life cycles with you as the term develops. |
