We've been getting arty with Mrs Humphries again - this time we have created large collages of images you might find on an ancient Greek vase. The children worked in groups to cover the entire images, which will be placed in the hall once completed.

It has been a fantastic term and we're all very much looking forward to the two week break. Nonetheless, we have enjoyed our ancient Greece theme and thought we'd share some pictures of the work we have done.
We continued our enjoyment of science investigations this week by experimenting with the combination of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We applied this combination in two different approaches to analyse its effects - to see if we could reverse the change or not.
Firstly, we combined the soda and vinegar together and put it on an apple slice. The result was a chemical reaction in the form of fizzing and part of the apple slice disappearing. We learned that the chemical reaction gave off a gas (carbon dioxide) and that this made it an irreversible change (we couldn't get that part of the apple slice back)! Secondly, we combined the soda and vinager again but within a bottle, whilst placing a delfated balloon on the top of the bottle. We predicted that the gas released in the chemical reaction would inflate the balloon - which it did! As a result, we could again confirm that it was an irreversible change. Overall, because the result of both chemical reactions produced a new material, we couldn't get the original substance back. This then meant the changes were irreversible. On Wednesday we were very fortunate to be involved in a forensic science investigation to solve a mysterious crime. We took part in three different activities: finger print analysis, foot print detection and solution changes. By using the properties of materials we were able to investigate the changes of different materials in order to solve the mysteries surrounding each piece of evidence.
On Thursday 1st March 2018 it was World Book Day!
Everyone came into school in comfortable clothes (or dressed up as a ficitional character) with their favourite book. We shared our books with Reception, explaining what our books were about and we read short extracts to one another. It was a fantastic day but we really appreciate the Reception children making our World Book Day even better by sharing their books. The snow was an added bonus! On Wednesday 28th February 2018 we went to Tewkesbury Comprehensive School in order to gain an idea of what life is like in a secondary school. Our day included: a ride to the school and back on a bus; eating delicious school dinners; trying a range of fantastic lessons (including art, P.E. and history); and meeting year 5 children from other schools. It was a great day and we really appreciate Tewkesbury School organising it for us.
